Fixation
Fixation is the process that arrests the degradation of tissue samples by stabilizing its biochemical bonds. IMD clients are routinely provided samples fixed with a 10% neutral buffered formalin.
Paraffin Processing and Embedding
IMD Path utilizes Sakura Tissue Tek VIP and Leica Polaris processors with a variety of protocols designed for the processing of various tissue types. These protocols were validated for small biopsies in concordance with the highly specific requirements for Breast Cancer Sample Protocols.
Our dehydration methodology requires the use of ethanol, xylene, and paraffin (for infiltration).
Embedding is performed with the usage of Sakura Tissue Tek and Medite embedding centers.

Microtomy
IMD performs Microtomy on paraffin blocks utilizing various protocols designed for your specific tissue type. IMD utilizes Leica and Thermo Shandonmicrotomes.
Hematoxylin and Eosin Staining (H&E)
At IMD, H&E Staining is performed with the utilization of our Sakura Tissue Tek automatic stainer. We ensure all of our clients and patients that H&E quality control is performed daily by a trained and licensed pathologist.
